2022 Bachelet-Monnot Maranges 1er Cru Clos Roussots Rouge

89-91 The domaine always owned a small plot but now have taken back some more, to make nearly half a hectare, so there is enough for a cuvée this year. It has been made in a different way too: all whole bunch vinification and no sulphur until racking. A fine dark purple in colour. The bouquet has an exceptional energy, the vibrant dark berry fruit completely filling the palate. Spice and white pepper at the back, giving a drier note to the otherwise sweet fruit, then a whole cherry perfume right at the finish. Entrancing. Slightly riper fruit here, 13.7% at harvest.
